Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi made a gesture in the direction of his AC Milan counterpart Rade Krunic in yesterday’s derby win.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the significance of the 23-year-old’s brief but impactful hand gesture.

The Milan derby is always a match that sees some controversies and skirmishes on the pitch.

And yesterday’s edition of the fixture was no different.

One of the running battles that emerged towards the end of the match was between two midfielders. Inter’s Frattesi and Milan’s Krunic took evident exception with one another.

And towards the end of the match, Frattesi made a “silencing” gesture towards his Milan opposite number.

The 23-year-old first put his finger to his lips to “shush” Krunic. Then, he held up four fingers.

And the significant at that point in the match was clear.

Davide Frattesi Sends A Message To AC Milan Midfielder Rade Krunic

The Gazzetta note that after “silencing” Krunic, Frattesi held up four fingers.

At that point, Inter had scored four goals in the derby.

The Gazzetta compare the gesture to a famous one made by legendary former Roma captain Francesco Totti. The Giallorossi icon had also raised four fingers in that manner during a 4-0 thrashing of Juventus in 2004.

Whether Frattesi’s gesture was a deliberate homage to Totti’s isn’t certain.

But what was clear is that the Inter midfielder was looking to get one over on Krunic after some hostilities between the pair.

And then Frattesi would go even further. The 23-year-old scored Inter’s final goal of the 5-1 rout in extra time.

By that point, of course, the result was not in any real question.

But for Frattesi, it was perhaps a bit of a moment of personal vindication.

The Inter midfielder could have added one more finger onto his gesture after putting the seal on a comprehensive victory.
