Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is missing tomorrow’s Champions League opener against Real Sociedad only as a precaution.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews.

So far this season, Calhanoglu has started every single on of Inter’s matches in Serie A.

The Turkish international has certainly established himself as a key player for the Nerazzurri over the past couple seasons.

From his position at the base of Inter’s midfield trio, Calhanoglu has acted as Inter’s heartbeat, in and out of possession.

Therefore, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will see it as something of a worry that he looks set to have to do without Calhanoglu for at least one match.

According to FCIN, though, it does not look likely that Calhanoglu will be out for too long.

Rather, the Turk is only missing tomorrow’s match as a precaution.

Calhanoglu will not be travelling with the rest of Inter’s squad to San Sebastian for tomorrow’s match.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder will stay behind in Milano.

This is because of an injury that the player picked up towards the end of today’s training session.

But FCIN report that the injury is not serious. Rather, the thinking behind leaving Calhanoglu out of tomorrow’s match is simply to avoid compromising his fitness for the next few matches.

The injury is only a minor worry.

However, with Inter set to play three Serie A matches in the space of a week after tomorrow’s match, with further commitments in both the league and the Champions League to follow, it would be more of a worry if Calhanoglu were to exacerbate the injury.

Moreover, Calhanoglu was not necessarily likely to start tomorrow anyway.

According to FCIN, Kristjan Asllani and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are both playing for a starting spot tomorrow.
