Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez feels that the Nerazzurri are rady to get their new Champions League campaign started.
Speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews, Martinez also stressed that the team have to be clinical against Real Sociedad this evening.
The wait is nearly over.
Today, Inter will begin a new Champions League campaign.
Last season, the Nerazzurri’s season in Europe was nearly perfect. They escaped from a “group of death” containing Barcelona and Bayern Munich, before going on a memorable run through the knockout rounds of the competition.
Inter had to endure heartbreak at the climax of their season. They fell at the last hurdle, suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
And now, Inter go again.
The Nerazzurri will face Real Sociedad away in San Sebastian to begin again in earnest in Europe’s top competition.
Red Bull Salzburg and Benfica are the other two teams in Inter’s group.
This may not be as tough of a group as Inter faced last season, at least on paper. But it represents the beginning of another journey with many potential pitfalls, and the possibility of glory.
Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez: We’re Ready For The Champions League
Martinez gave the view that “We’ve seen over the first few weeks of the season that this is a strong team with top players.”
“Now we have to be focused and play the way we’ve prepared in the past few days,” he continued.
“We’ve gotten our energy back,” the Inter captain said. “And now we’re ready to start our new adventure in this competition.”
Of starting this season as captain, Martinez said that “Every day I feel better and better.”
“I try to learn a lot from my teammates, the coach, and the coaching staff,” the 26-year-old reflected.
“And I always try to give my contribution to the team, scoring goals or helping the rest of the team. I’m very happy to do that.”
And of the key to beating La Real this evening, Martinez said that “Remain at a distance, prevent them from playing their game in possession, and do well when we’re getting the ball forward from deep.”
“They’re a team that play high up the pitch, aggressive. Therefore we have to be clinical in how we counterattack and look for spaces.”
