Inter Milan are in a hurry to begin contract extension talks with midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it. The Gazzetta anticipate that the Nerazzurri will offer the Armenian a one-year extension, whilst the player and his representatives want a new two-year deal.

Mkhitaryan’s current contract with Inter runs out at the end of next June.

When the former Arsenal and Manchester United man signed for Inter from Roma last summer, he did so on a two-year contract.

Aged 33 when he signed from the Giallorossi, Inter were never likely to offer the veteran midfielder a longer deal than that.

But Mkhitaryan is showing no sign of slowing down. He will be 35 when his current deal runs out, but the sense is that he could still have his say past that age.

Therefore, Inter do not want to lose hold of Mkhitaryan at the end of the current season.

The Nerazzurri are hoping to agree a new deal with the Armenian. And they are not waiting around to try and do so.

Inter Milan Close To Begin Henrikh Mkhitaryan Contract Extension Talks Soon

According to the Gazzetta, Inter are preparing to hold talks with Mkhitaryan’s agent Rafaela Pimenta in the very near future.

Pimenta has already confirmed that Mkhitaryan’s hope is to sign a new deal with Inter.

The former Roma midfielder remains happy where he is, and would like to stay.

The question, therefore, concerns whether or not the club and player can find an agreement on the terms of a new deal.

According to the Gazzetta, Mkhitaryan and Pimenta are likely to want a new two-year contract. This would take him until the end of June 2026.

On the other hand, the Nerazzurri will likely offer a one-year deal. Possibly with the option of a further season.

In any event, the Gazzetta anticipate, Inter are not going to wait until anywhere close to the end of the season.

They are going to make contact with Mkhitaryan’s agent very soon.
