French defender Benjamin Pavard was content with his Inter Milan debut during last night’s Champions League encounter against Real Sociedad.

The 27-year-old made the switch from Bayern Munich in the final days of the summer transfer market.

While Simone Inzaghi had opted to maintain Matteo Darmian in the starting lineup in last weekend’s Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan, it was the Frenchman who got the nod on Wednesday night.

Pavard joined Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni in the back-three. The Nerazzurri spent the majority of the match trailing after conceding early. Nevertheless, captain Lautaro Martinez snatched a late equalizer to earn a precious away point.

After the match, Pavard revealed his delight after taking the field for the first time since joining Inter. He believes it was a good result considering the circumstances.

“In Italian football, there is a lot of aggression, a lot of tactical work,” explained the 2018 World Cup winner in his post-match interview with Inter TV via FcInterNews.

“I’m very happy to have been able to start today. It was a very difficult match but in the end, we brought home a good result.

“Now we have to recover. The next match is right at the door, therefore, we need to recover our energy.

“We suffered but it was important to avoid a defeat. Another difficult match awaits us and we will have to give our all on Sunday.”

The Nerazzurri will take on Empoli in Sunday’s early Serie A kickoff. The Tuscans have recently brought back Aurelio Andreazzoli for a new stint after sacking their former coach Paolo Zanetti.
