Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is set to be back from his injury in tomorrow’s Serie A match away to Empoli.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Calhanoglu missed out on Inter’s Champions League group stage opener against Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

The issue for the midfielder was a thigh strain.

And the Turkish international proved to be a big loss for the Nerazzurri.

Calhanoglu has been one of Inter’s key players this season. The 29-year-old is the player who orchestrates the Nerazzurri’s possession game from the team’s engine room, and his absence meant that at times La Real were able to completely overrun them in midfield.

But Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will not have to do without Calhanoglu for long.

The thigh problem that kept Calhanoglu out of Wednesday’s trip to Spain was not serious.

Rather, the Nerazzurri had simply left the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen man out of the squad as a precaution.

Naturally, with so many matches on the way across several competitions, the last thing Inter and Inzaghi would want is for a key player like Calhanoglu to make his injury more serious.

But according to the Gazzetta, Calhanoglu will already be in good condition to return tomorrow.

The newspaper anticipate that the Turk will be back in the starting eleven already.

Midfielder Kristjan Asllani had started in Calhanoglu’s place on Wednesday.

However, the Albanian will drop out of the starting eleven to make way for Calhanoglu.

Last season, Calhanoglu made 49 appearances for Inter across all competitions.

The 29-year-old has become the team’s first-choice holding midfielder. And with the departure of Marcelo Brozovic this summer, Calhanoglu’s role in the team has only become more prominent.
