Inter Milan are showing a newfound sense of solidity and confidence after processing last season’s Champions League final disappointment.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Last season, Inter got off to a rough start to the campaign.

And in truth, the middle section of the season was not a great deal better.

The Nerazzurri’s principle issue was a lack of consistency from match to match. There were some good performances, but also some shambolic ones.

This led to Inter falling miles behind Napoli in the Serie A title race. Even a finish in the top four of the table looked uncertain at one point.

But the Nerazzurri found their way in the decisive final weeks of the season.

Inter lost just one of their last eight matches in Serie A, winning the rest. They also won the Coppa Italia, beating Fiorentina in the final.

And the heroics in the Champions League were the perfect way for Inter to put doubts to rest from earlier on in the season.

The Nerazzurri knocked out Benfica and AC Milan to reach the final of Europe’s top club competition.

Inter’s Champions League season ended in heartbreak, however.

The Nerazzurri lost 0-1 to Manchester City in the final of the competition.

It was by no means a bad performance from Inter. Despite predictions that City would be heavy favourites, it was an incredibly tight match that the English giants only won by the narrowest of margins.

And Inter even had some excellent late chances to equalize which they squandered.

The worry, then, was that this bitter disappointment would lead to something of a hangover at the start of this season.

But on the contrary, the Nerazzurri have looked more assured of themselves than ever.

Last season’s experience seems to have shown Inter what they’re capable of if they commit to their style of play.
