Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram is happy to have gotten a Champions League win over Benfica, and considers Lautaro Martinez a top player.

The 26-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after this evening’s match, via FCInter1908.

Thuram got his third ever goal as an Inter player this evening. And it was arguably the most important one that he’s scored yet.

The Nerazzurri were desperate for three points in their second Champions League group stage match of the season.

In the opener away to Real Sociedad, the team had salvaged a draw.

But the performance was far from a convincing one. Inter needed to produce a response and take three points from their second match of the season.

Therefore, Thuram’s goal was enough to put Inter’s efforts to reach the knockout rounds of Europe’s top club competition for the third season running right back on track.

The Nerazzurri could truthfully have had one or two more goals at least in the second half.

But a combination of profligate finishing and some brilliant goalkeeping by Anatoliy Trubin prevented that from being the case.

But it was the clinical Thuram who proved to be Inter’s match-winner. The Frenchman did very well to slot past Trubin when the ball fell to his feet, and he gave his side three huge points.

“We got three points in front of our fans. I’m happy.”

“Everyone could have scored in this match,” the Frenchman continued. “Lautaro, Mkhitaryan. And not just them.”

“But I’m happy that I was able to score.”

Thuram was also full of praise for his Inter strike partner and captain Lautaro Martinez.

“He’s one of the best strikers in the world,” the Frenchman said of the Argentine.”

“I’m learning to play with him, and he with me.”

“It’s always easier to play with players like him,” the Frenchman added. “You can always improve.”
