Inter Milan wingback Juan Cuadrado could stay back in Milano to rest and recuperate from injury during the international break.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have already opened up the diplomatic channels with the Colombian national team to convince them not to call the 35-year-old up.
Former Juventus, Chelsea, and Fiorentina veteran Cuadrado was in Inter’s squad for yesterday’s Champions League group stage match against Benfica.
However, the Colombian did not feature.
The Colombian has in fact yet to make an appearance for Inter after the September international break.
Heading into that international break, Cuadrado had appeared in every one of Inter’s matches. He has yet to start for the Nerazzurri, but has made three substitute appearances.
Cuadrado even grabbed an assist for Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.
But during the international break, the veteran wingback suffered from some muscle problems. These were found to be tendinitis.
The issue may not be overly serious, but has nevertheless prevented the veteran wingback from getting back on the pitch. The aim has been to avoid taking any risks with his fitness.
Juan Cuadrado Could Remain In Milano During International Break
Cuadrado’s most recent appearance for either club or country was in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela during the September international break.
The Inter wingback started that match and played the first half. But at halftime, he came off as a substitute due to muscle problems.
Now, Inter are hoping that Cuadrado can take the next international break to rest and work on building up his fitness.
The tendinitis issue may not be a serious injury. But it is one that can cause problems if it is not carefully managed.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri are hoping to keep Cuadrado in Milano working in training during the break.
Inter would prefer that the 35-year-old not take to the pitch during the break.
And the Nerazzurri have already expressed this request to the Colombian national team.
