Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is pleased with his team’s Champions League win over Benfica. However, he feels his team could have scored more goals.
After drawing 1-1 against Real Sociedad on the opening matchday, the Nerazzurri secured their first European victory this season at Benfica’s expense.
The Italian giants started the match on a slow note. However, they managed to put up a dominant second-half display to seal the win.
Lautaro Martinez couldn’t score despite a flurry of chances. But Marcus Thuram’s solitary strike was enough to secure all three points.
After the match, Inzaghi hailed his team’s display, especially in the second period. He insists that Benfica are tough opponents, citing their impressive results this season.
“The lads were good. In the second half, it seemed like we could score with every action,” said the Italian coach in his post-match interview with Sportitalia via FcInterNews.
“I congratulated them for their efforts. Let’s not forget that Benfica had won all but one of their matches in the league this season. They also clinched the Portuguese Super Cup.
Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Says His Team Could Have Added More Goals In Champions League Win Over Benfica
“We respected our opponents with a slightly more tactical first half. However, we still created goal-scoring opportunities.”
As we reported earlier today, Simone Inzaghi delivered a morale-boosting halftime speech while also making some tactical tweaks. His work during the interval apparently paid off.
Following this win, Inter now sit second in Group B. They are on par with Real Sociedad in terms of goals. But the Spaniards’ superior goal difference gives them the edge.
