Former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi feels that Inter Milan played a lot of good football against Bologna despite drawing 2-2.

The former coach reacted to the Serie A draw at the San Siro in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Clearly, Inter will not be happy with the result from yesterday afternoon’s match.

The Nerazzurri threw away a two-goal advantage and had to settle for a point.

And in terms of the performance, it was not as though Inter were battering the Bologna goal after a rapid fire opening fifteen minutes.

But Sacchi is not so quick to entirely dismiss the Nerazzurri’s work.

The former Milan and Italy coach has often been one of Inter’s biggest critics under Simone Inzaghi. But he did not find them to be altogether useless yesterday, in spite of the result.

Sacchi: Inter Undone By Errors, But Played Some Good Football Vs Bologna

“Inter started very well against Bologna,” Sacchi writes.

“It seemed as though their brilliant performance against Benfica in the Champions League was continuing.”

“They led by two goals and were in full control of the game,” he continues. “The ball was moving quickly. There were excellent interchanges, and the Nerazzurri were able to get into the final third. A clear sign that their possession play was effective.”

“But Bologna deserve credit for not collapsing,” Sacchi goes on.

“Thiago Motta’s team is well-organised, understands football, and plays it with both geometry and great intensity.”

Sacchi notes that “Simone Inzaghi called them ‘bloody points’ to drop. And this is how we understand the reaction.”

“The goals that they conceded were probably avoidable, there were carelessness in the defensive phase.”

“I noticed that, especially in the second half, Inter applied little pressure, and this aspect, in the long run, is decisive,” Sacchi argues.

“However, despite the draw at home, it has to be underlined that for long stretches the Nerazzurri played good football: proactive, courageous, vehement.”
