Wingback Carlos Augusto has been praised for his impact from the bench for Inter Milan in yesterday’s Serie A draw against Bologna.

As L’Interista highlight, the Brazilian won plaudits for his performance in the player ratings for the match across Italian media.

Former Monza wingback Augusto did not start yesterday.

It was instead Federico Dimarco who took up his customary position on the left flank for Inter.

The Italian international didn’t have a bad match, but did not have a massive impact in attack either.

Therefore, Augusto was one of the players who Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi turned to when he needed an attacking impact.

The coach frequently uses strategic substitutions in the wingback positions. These are arguably the most physically demanding positions in the coach’s 3-5-2 system.

Therefore, it always looked probable that Inzaghi would remove Dimarco at some stage as the 25-year-old tired. And Augusto would be the player to add fresh legs on the left.

Inzaghi decided to make the switch relatively early on in the second half.

The fact that Bologna had equalized forced the coach’s hand somewhat. He needed to give the team another gear.

Carlos Augusto Praised For Impact For Inter Vs Bologna

In this sense, Augusto proved to be the perfect player for Inzaghi to throw on.

The 24-year-old was full of running and energy.

This gave Rossoblu captain Lorenzo Di Silvestri something altogether different to think about compared to when Dimarco was on the pitch.

Augusto was able to beat Di Silvestri for pace on a couple occasions. Moreover, he gave Inter a wide outlet that could stretch the Rossoblu defense out of shape.

Augusto played the ball from which Alexis Sanchez thought he’d restored Inter’s advantage before an offside flag went up.

The Brazilian also had a couple good chances to get on the scoresheet himself.
