Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi is pushing for full fitness in time for next week’s EURO 2024 qualifier between Italy and England.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter midfielder Frattesi has dealt with some injury and fitness issues at the start of the current season.

The 24-year-old has not gone straight into the Nerazzurri’s starting lineup on a regular basis. And whilst the settling-in process has been part of the reason for this, there have also been some fitness issues for Frattesi.

There has not been one single major injury that has ruled the former Sassuolo midfielder out for an extended period.

However, Frattesi has dealt with some muscle problems that have either meant that he’s been unable to play at all, or only for a certain amount of time.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi admitted that fitness was the reason Frattesi could only appear from the bench in the second half of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League opener against Real Sociedad, for instance.

And Frattesi also missed a couple recent matches for Inter. The Italian international was out of matches against Salernitana in Serie A and Benfica in the Champions League.

Frattesi did make an appearance for Inter against Bologna over the weekend.

The 24-year-old came off the bench in the second half of that match. It was his first appearance since facing his former team Sassuolo.

This meant that there was no doubt of Frattesi’s fitness to be part of the Italy squad during the international break.

Azzurri coach Luciano Spalletti called the Inter midfielder up.

But Frattesi is not at 100% at this point. He will still need a few days to really build up his fitness.

Fortunately for Frattesi, he will get that chance during the break.

There will be a few days of training with the Italy squad. Then the Azzurri take on Malta in their first of two EURO 2024 qualifiers during the break over the weekend.

It’s not clear whether Frattesi will be ready to play, or start, in that match.

But it’s the following match that is the real big one. Italy host England in a massive EURO 2024 qualifier next Tuesday.

Therefore, that is the date that Frattesi is circling on his calendar. The Inter midfielder wants to be at full fitness to face the Three Lions.
