Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta feels that there’s no reason for Inter Milan to “find themselves.“
Speaking to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, the Inter executive also aimed a dig at current Roma and former Nerazzurri striker Romelu Lukaku.
Inter have had a somewhat mixed start to the season.
The Nerazzurri are sitting second in the table, two points off of their city rivals AC Milan.
And Inter have dropped just five points from their opening eight matches in the league.
That’s hardly bad going, by most standards. But the fact that those five points came in their last three matches before the international break has raised one or two points.
And then the fact that Milan are ahead of Inter despite the fact that the Nerazzurri had won the head-to-head match in the derby by an emphatic 5-1 scoreline will raise some eyebrows.
There are some rumblings that Inter have lost their way a bit.
Accusations of complacency or a lack of confidence or coherency can arise.
But from the perspective of Inter CEO Marotta, there is no reason for any of this. He believes that the team know just what they need to do, and that they’re capable of it.
Marotta: Inter Milan Don’t Need To “Find Themselves”
Asked if Inter need to “find themselves” after setbacks against Sassuolo and Bologna, Marotta replied “No.”
“Our journey has just begun,” the Nerazzurri CEO made clear.
“Regardless of the table, the team has shown that it has a newfound awareness of what they’re capable of,” he continued.
“The performances so far, except for two, have shown that our journey in the Champions League is helping us to start the season in the best way possible.”
As far as the recent remarks in which striker Lukaku has hinted at some summer controversies, Marotta said that “There’s no reason to stay silent.”
“These days all the little phrases, tweets as they say, add up to something. The meaning is clear.”
