Inter Milan scouted Empoli midfielder Tommaso Baldanzi during yesterday evening’s clash between Italy Under-21 and Norway.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews. The outlet note that the 20-year-old Azzurri starlet got on the scoresheet before picking up an injury.
Baldanzi has been one of Empoli’s outstanding players over the past couple of seasons.
The young Italian started to break through into the Tuscans’ first team as a teenager. He has proven that he is more than up to the level of Serie A football even at a young age.
Baldanzi was a key player for Empoli last season, and that certainly looks as though it will continue this time around.
The Tuscans face a real dogfight for survival in Serie A. They have shown signs of stabilizing under coach Aurelio Andreazzoli, but have hardly shaken off their disastrous start to the campaign.
The worst aspect has been a lack of goals. There has been only one goal from Empoli in eight matches – and it was Baldanzi who scored it.
The 20-year-old got a priceless winner in a 1-0 victory over fellow relegation-battlers Salernitana.
And that goal more or less summed up everything good about Baldanzi. The young midfileder’s first touch, timing and and instincts around the penalty area, close control, and linkup with teammates have meant that he has often sparked Empoli’s attack.
Inter Milan Scout Empoli Starlet Tommaso Baldanzi For Italy U21s
Given Inter’s increasing focus on young Italian talent, it is little surprise that the Nerazzurri have taken an interest in Baldanzi.
The 20-year-old was in action yesterday.
Baldanzi has been part of the Italy Under-21 squad during the international break.
And the Empoli midfielder started for the Azzurri in yesterday’s EURO qualifier against Norway.
Baldanzi scored the all-important opening goal in a 2-0 win for the Italians.
The 20-year-old did have to come off the pitch in the 57th minute with an injury.
But it didn’t look to be anything too serious.
FCIN report that Baldanzi’s performance only further solidified Inter’s interest in the young midfielder for the future.
