Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella denies any involvement in the betting scandal that is currently rocking Italian football. The midfielder reserved some unfriendly words for those who accused him.

During the international break, Italy stars Nicolo Zaniolo and Sandro Tonali had to leave the national team camp after being investigated by the police for their role in an illegal betting case that erupted recently.

Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli also received a seven-month suspension for placing illegal wagers after securing a plea bargain with the prosecutor’s office.

Sources expect many more names to resurface in this infamous scandal. But while some tried to add Nicolo Barella to the fold, to latter’s response was swift and blunt.

A newspaper named “La Verita” published quotes from Maurizio Petra (one of Fabrizio Corona’s sources), bringing up the name of the Inter star.

The 26-year-old replied by aiming a dig at the newspaper and denying any involvement in the matter.

“From a newspaper called La Verità (The Truth) one would expect more seriousness,” posted Barella on his Instagram account via FcInterNews.

“The only truth is that you are clowns,” said the Italy international as he went on the attack.

“I have been silent for too long, despite reading all those stories about me. I have never liked gambling, let alone betting (mostly on my job).

“The only thing I care about is protecting my daughters and my family from this sh*t. For this reason, from today, I will take legal action.”
