Inter Milan are valuing their captain Lautaro Martinez at no less than €180 million, as he’s scored more league goals than Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland at the start of this season.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper highlight the need for the Nerazzurri to tie the 26-year-old down on a new contract to ward off interest from Europe’s elite.
Martinez had already been Inter’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons.
It has become virtually normal for the Argentine to exceed twenty goals in terms of his tally in Serie A.
But in the first couple months of the current season, Martinez has outdone himself.
The 26-year-old’s goal against Torino over the weekend took his total to eleven in the league. And he also scored an all-important equalizer against Real Sociedad in the Champions League, for twelve.
Inter Want To Lock Down Lautaro Martinez – Same Numbers As Mbappe & Haaland
Martinez’s current goal tally puts him ahead of Manchester City striker Haaland, who has so far scored nine goals in the same number of matches as the Inter captain.
Meanwhile, France international superstars has scored eight league goals for Paris Saint-Germain.
The Gazzetta suggest that Martinez is increasingly in the same company as that pair.
The Argentine has consistently been one of Europe’s most lethal goalscorers in Serie A. And he only seems to be getting more prolific – currently ahead of some of the continent’s biggest names.
Therefore, the Gazzetta report, Inter are increasingly keen to get a contract extension agreement hammered out with their captain.
The Nerazzurri want to make one thing clear to other clubs in Europe – hands off.
And if there were to be a sale of Martinez, the Gazzetta report that there is little chance that it would be for a fee any lower than what Napoli would demand for Victor Osimhen.
Inter would expect a minimum of €180 million offer to even think about selling their captain.
