Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto is happy to get a Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg in his first start at the San Siro.

The 24-year-old Brazilian international spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after the 2-1 group stage win.

Augusto made his second start in the Champions League against Salzburg this evening.

The Brazilian had also started against Real Sociedad in Inter’s group stage opener.

That match had been away in Spain. Meanwhile, Augusto’s only other start since joining Inter came against Salernitana in Serie A.

That start against Salernitana was also an away match.

Therefore, Augusto had only started in matches away from the San Siro for Inter.

But the former Monza wingback got the nod this evening. He started ahead of Federico Dimarco on Inter’s left flank.

And the match went well for Augusto and for Inter.

The 24-year-old helped the Nerazzurri go toe-to-toe with the energetic and organized Austrian champions. They saw out a 2-1 win to give themselves a real foothold in their group on seven points after three matches.

After the match Augusto noted that “First of all, I’m happy to play and to have started this match.”

“This match was my first at the San Siro as a starter,” he said.

“My teammates and the coaching staff help me a lot,” the Brazilian continued. “And now it can’t be too long before I get a goal.”

“I promise I’ll score, I just have to be patient,” he said. Augusto scored six goals and assisted five for Monza last season.

And the Brazilian also gave his thoughts on the Salzburg team that Inter beat.

“They’re a young team that wants to push high up,” he said.

“In the dying minutes it’s normal for teams like that to press. But we did very well, and we got a win that’s very important for us.”
