Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the physical condition of forward Alexis Sanchez is improving match by match.

The coach spoke about the Chilean in a press conference after the Nerazzurri’s Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg, as reported by FCInterNews. He also gave his reaction to the group stage victory.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Sanchez started against Salzburg in this evening’s Champions League group stage match.

The Chilean made his appearance count. He scored the match’s opening goal to cap off a solid performance.

This was Sanchez’s second start since returning to Inter during the summer transfer window.

The 34-year-old has also made some appearances off the bench.

But Sanchez has yet to really show his best form. The feeling is that a lack of match-fitness has played a role in that.

But from the perspective of his coach, the Chilean international is getting better and better in that respect.

Inter Coach Inzaghi Updates On Physical Condition Of Alexis Sanchez

Inzaghi said of Sanchez that “He and Arnautovic wanted to join Inter, and Inter wanted them.”

“They are excellent players,” he went on.

“We know Sanchez, he has these matches in his heart,” the Inter coach continued. “He’s improving in terms of his physical condition.”

“I’m happy that he scored because of the way he trains at Appiano.”

Of his team’s reaction to conceding an equalizer against Salzburg, Inzaghi said that “It’s important because there have been two other times that we took the lead and then conceded an equalizer despite there being little danger.”

“Apart from the first quarter of an hour in which we struggled to get the distances between the lines right, we did well to stay in the game and to take the lead. It’s a very positive sign.”

And the Inter coach also spoke about the importance of Lautaro Martinez to the team.

“He’s our captain,” he said of the Argentine.

“He’s working very well in training, and has to keep going like this.”

“In the Champions League, after his goal against Real Sociedad, he hasn’t been lucky.”

“We’re happy to have him,” Inzaghi made clear of his captain.
