Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij feels that the Nerazzurri didn’t start well against Red Bull Salzburg, but grew into the match.

The Dutchman spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the match, via FCInterNews, giving his reaction to the group stage victory.

Inter took three points for the second Champions League match in a row at the San Siro.

It was not the easiest of matches against an organized and aggressive Salzburg team.

In the first five or ten minutes, it was the away team who looked more like they were the ones in control of the tempo. Inter struggled to keep hold of the ball at times under the tight marking of the Italian champions.

But then the Nerazzurri’s quality showed through for the match’s opening goal.

Alexis Sanchez finished off an excellent team goal to open the scoring.

Then in the second half, Salzburg got back into the match. Attacking midfielder Oscar Gloukh equalized just before the hour-mark.

But then Hakan Calhanoglu restored Inter’s advantage from the penalty spot.

It was not the easiest of matches for the Nerazzurri by any means.

But in the end, the result is what matters. Inter managed to give themselves some breathing room in their Champions League group with the victory.

Stefan De Vrij Reacts To Inter Champions League Win Vs Red Bull Salzburg

Dutch international defender de Vrij started at the centre of the defense for Inter.

The 31-year-old gave his thoughts on the match.

“It was a very important match in terms of the group,” he said.

“We didn’t start well, we suffered until our goal,” he noted. “We lost too many balls, but after scoring we improved. We played better, we looked for the second goal and we showed that we also know how to suffer when we have to.”

“We knew that this would be an important match for the group,” the 31-year-old added.

“And now we’re in a good place. But we still know that there are three matches left to go. The next match will also be important for qualifying for the knockouts.”
