Inter Milan have set the Scudetto title as their main objective this season, while another Champions League run would be the cherry on top.
Last season, the Nerazzurri enjoyed a memorable European campaign. They reached the final of Europe’s elite club competition after eliminating crosstown rivals AC Milan in the semi-finals.
But despite their valiant effort, they missed out on the prestigious trophy, losing 0-1 at the hands of Man City in the final.
Simone Inzaghi’s men also clinched the Coppa Italian and Italian Super Cup last season. Nevertheless, the club endured a forgettable league campaign, finishing in third place, 18 points adrift of Napoli.
Moreover, the Beneamata suffered 12 defeats in Serie A, a figure that certainly didn’t sit well with the management and fans alike.
So according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the club’s hierarchy has now made it clear that winning the league is the club’s main objective in the current campaign.
Inter Milan Have Identified The Scudetto Title As The Club’s Primary objective Ahead Of Champions League Run
Therefore, Inzaghi will have to, first and foremost, deliver the Scudetto title by the end of the season and unlock the club’s second golden star.
On the other hand, a successful Champions League run would be an added value for the club’s campaign. So at this point, Inter’s management feels that reaching the tournament’s quarter-finals would suffice as long as the team goes on to clinch the Serie A title.
Thus, the source feels that this hierarchy of objectives partially explains why Inzaghi left four regular starters on the bench in Tuesday’s Champions League encounter against RB Salzburg (Barella, Acerbi, Dimarco and Thuram).
The Nerazzurri won the encounter 2-1 and remain on par with Real Sociedad at 7 points on top of their UCL group.
