Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez will reportedly become the highest-paid star in Serie A once he renews his contract with the club.
The Argentine first joined the Nerazzurri as a young prospect in 2018. The striker then blossomed under the guidance of Antonio Conte who paired him with Romelu Lukaku.
While the Belgian opted for different career choices, Lautaro remains loyal to the Nerazzurri cause. In the summer, he inherited the captaincy following the departure of Samir Handanovic and other senior members of the squad.
This season, he’s taking his game up a notch and has already bagged 12 goals across all competitions.
So according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the club will reward the 26-year-old by offering him a new lucrative deal.
The 2022 World Cup winner currently earns six million euros per season as net wages. His contract runs until 2026.
Nevertheless, Inter would like to push back the deadline and tie their talisman to a long-term deal, making him the highest-paid player in the league. The source expects the new contract to run until 2028.
