Inter Milan legend Giuseppe Bergomi understands the statements made by Jose Mourinho ahead of Sunday’s clash but is still waiting for a clarification from Romelu Lukaku.

The Nerazzurri will host the capital side at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Sunday night.

This fixture is one of the most anticipated showdowns in the Serie A calendar, partially thanks to Mourinho and Lukaku and their past with the Beneamata.

Following Roma’s win over Slavia Praga in the Europa League, Mourinho rued his lack of squad depth.

The Special One revealed he’ll be facing the strongest club in Italian football with a thin squad.

Bergomi was present in the Sky Sport studios and said he understands where the Portuguese is coming from.

“I understand Mourinho. He has many injured players. If he had the likes of Sanches, Dybala, Smalling, Roma would have been able to rotate,” said the iconic Inter defender via FcInterNews

“They play with three at the back. But they don’t have six defenders available with Smalling and Kumbulla out.

“In the other departments, however, he can alternate. But I repeat, I get what José is saying.

“He sees Inter who already have two extra days of rest and only have a couple of absentees in Arnautovic and Cuadrado, while he has a few more.”

Inter Milan Legend Giuseppe Bergomi Discusses Jose Mourinho And Romelu Lukaku

On another note, Bergomi said he’s still waiting to hear Lukaku’s version of the summer events.

The striker had previously promised to reveal how things unfolded from his perspective.

“I’m waiting for Lukaku’s statements regarding what happened this summer. When he says ‘never to Milan’, ‘never to Juve’ and then you agree terms with these two clubs, it’s obvious that the fan feels betrayed.

“But he never spoke, so I’m also waiting for his version. I know what happened, what the club told me.

“At a certain point, Inter even tried to re-establish relations. But then, the locker room no longer wanted him.”
