The assistant manager of the Iranian national team reveals that Mehdi Taremi intends to leave Porto in January and is pleased with Inter Milan’s interest.
The Nerazzurri currently have four strikers contending for two spots in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation.
Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram have established themselves as regular starters. Alexis Sanchez is featuring as a backup while Marko Arnautovic has been out of action since sustaining an injury in September.
Therefore, some sources tip Inter to resort to the market as early as January to bolster Inzaghi’s attacking ranks.
Taremi was one of the club’s main targets in the summer. Thus, his name resurfaced in recent weeks.
For his part, Rahman Rezaei currently serves as the assistant for Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei.
Rezaie reveals that Taremi told him his intentions to leave Porto in the winter. He also claims that the striker would love to join the Serie A giants.
“We were in Jordan with the Iranian national team in recent weeks and I saw Mehdi in great shape,” said the assistant manager in an interview with Sportitalia,
“He played really well. I think that he can still give a lot at a high level for the next few years.
“He can do even better if he joins a stronger team. In teams like Inter and Milan, for example.”
“Taremi is 31 years old, but he can do really well in Italy. Think of what Mandzukic did with Allegri. He can guarantee at least two or three years at the high level.”
“I envision Taremi doing well playing alongside Lautaro Martinez. But it all depends on what Inzaghi thinks.”
Iran Assistant Manager Says Porto Striker Mehdi Taremi Would Be Happy To Join Inter Milan
Taremi feel that this is the right time for him to embark on a new adventure, reveals Rezaie.
“We talked about the transfer rumors. He also feels it’s the right time to change, to make a further leap into a great team.
“Mentally, he is ready. He told me that he was already ready in the summer, even if in the end it wasn’t possible to close the operation that was taking him to Serie A.
“I told him that one more season at Porto would be good for him and that next year he would be even more ready.”
“He agreed. He’s open to remaining at Porto until the summer or accepting an offer in January.”
“I told him that I’m reading reports linking him to Inter. So he made me understand that he is focused on giving his best in his remaining time at Porto and then leave.
“He was very happy with the Inter Milan links. The Nerazzurri are now at the top of the table in Italy.
“It’s important for him to see how well the Nerazzurri are doing. He would really like to go to a top team like that. He feels ready for a similar adventure “.
