Defender Francesco Acerbi will start for Inter Milan in tomorrow evening’s Serie A match against Roma.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

Since joining at the start of last season, Acerbi has tended to be the first-choice starter in the centre of Inter’s back three in the big matches.

Whilst the former Lazio and Sassuolo defender had seemingly come in as more of an experienced backup option to Stefan de Vrij, he has proven to be much more than that.

It has instead been de Vrij who has often been more of the backup option.

At the start of the current season, both the Italian and Dutch internationals have gotten plenty of playing time. The fact that Acerbi can also play on the left of the defense has meant that they have even played together.

Against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday, de Vrij started.

And it was a steady performance from the 31-year-old, who marshalled Inter’s backline well.

But according to Sky, de Vrij will lose his place for tomorrow’s match. Acerbi will be the man who starts at the heart of the Nerazzurri’s defense.

Francesco Acerbi To Start For Inter Vs Roma

The decision regarding who starts in the central role of Inter’s back three will be an important one for Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi.

Roma striker Romelu Lukaku is a player who Inter will be all too familiar with.

Therefore, Inzaghi will be thinking about which player he wants directly marking the Belgian,

And Sky report that Acerbi will be the man who the coach trusts with the task.

The 35-year-old Italian international will play at the Nerazzurri back three against the Giallorossi. Alessandro Bastoni and Benjamin Pavard will play on either side of him to complete the back three.
