Italian journalist Paolo Condo feels that Inter Milan’s win over Roma yesterday seemed like a match with the pitch slanting downhill.
Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInter1908, the journalist also noted that striker Romelu Lukaku had little impact on proceedings.
Inter and Roma is generally a hard fixture to predict in Serie A.
The Nerazzurri and the Giallorossi are basically always two of the teams with the strongest squads in the Italian top flight.
Therefore, even at the San Siro, Roma are one of the teams who Inter will typically have the hardest time getting the better of.
But yesterday, that wasn’t really the case.
Instead, it was quite a one-sided match.
Inter may have only won the match 1-0. But that narrow margin of victory in the scoreline hardly tells the entire story.
On the contrary, the Nerazzurri controlled most of the possession. They also created by far the more chances.
Condo: Inter Vs Roma Virtually A Downhill Match
“Inter against Roma was a match that was virtually played on a downhill pitch,” Condo writes.
“Rui Patricio and the Roma defense were waiting there at the bottom, for how easily Inter reached it,” he continues.
“Only to then get bogged down in the heavy traffic in the area.”
“Conversely, Sommer was waiting for Roma at the top of the hill,” Condo suggests. “Which seemed impossible to climb.”
“And in fact only Cristante managed to look him in the eye once.”
“We’ve been seeing Mourinho’s teams for years – and have sometimes admired them.”
“in a more or less effective way they have often replicated the attitude of the rattlesnake, curled up in an unassuming pose, only to suddenly spring out and bite their rival mortally.”
“Yesterday the snake limited itself to defending its territory,” Condo suggests,
“But if it never makes itself threatening, it’s inevitable that it will succumb in the end.”
“The big story of the day, Lukaku’s Sunday, was practically not told.”
