Inter Milan are a cut above Juventus and AC Milan in the Serie A title race.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
There’s still a long way to go, but it now looks like the Serie A title race will come down to three teams.
Inter currently sit top of the table. The Nerazzurri have dropped just five points so far in the season.
Juventus are just two points back from Inter, however, within a result of overtaking at the top.
And then Milan, even with a couple recent damaging results, are also only one weekend away from catching up with the Nerazzurri.
The likes of Napoli and Atalanta are also in striking distance.
Even teams like Fiorentina, Roma, and Lazio could well dream of doing the improbable.
But it does certainly look to be the three teams at the top who are ready to pull away.
Inter A Cut Above Juventus & AC Milan
So far, Inter have proven to be just a bit better than either of their major title rivals.
Or at least that is what the league table would suggest.
But with 28 matches still to go, the big question is whether or not the Nerazzurri have what it takes to sustain that form at the top.
And in the view of the Gazzetta, the answer to that question is yes.
For one thing, Inter have two highly in-form strikers at their disposal.
Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram have scored fifteen league goals between them.
And more importantly, there is little to suggest that this form in front of goal will slow down much.
It is true that Martinez will not likely keep up a pace of a goal a game for the rest of the season. But on the other hand, Thuram could certainly start scoring even more.
The two strikers’ performances on the pitch suggest this.
Whilst Juventus and Milan do have prolific strikers, they just aren’t at quite the same level.
Then there is Inter’s formidable defensive record.
The Nerazzurri have let in just five goals across their first ten matches of the season.
This is certainly a defensive record worthy of a title.
The question, though, is once again whether Inter can sustain this over a full season. And in the view of the Gazzetta, they very much can.
Lastly, there is the matter of Inter’s squad depth.
Both Juventus and Milan do have deep squads themselves. But for the Gazzetta, Inter simply have the edge.
