Italian media argue that striker Gianluca Scamacca made the right choice to join Atalanta over Inter Milan from West Ham United.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, highlight the 24-year-old’s form for La Dea and suggest that it would have been harder for him at Inter.

Italian international striker Scamacca faced something of a crossroads during the summer transfer window.

Scamacca had only joined West Ham in the previous summer. He arrived in East London on a big money move with significant expectations.

But Scamacca did not manage to make the impact that had been hoped for.

On the contrary, the Azzurri striker struggled for goals and consistency.

Injuries also played a role in Scamacca’s struggle to adapt in the Premier League.

Therefore, it always looked like a move away from the English top flight was a possibility for Scamacca. And a return to Serie A would have made the most sense.

In the end, it came down to a couple of clubs trying to sign Scamacca.

Did Gianluca Scamacca Make The Right Choice To Join Atalanta Over Inter?

Inter were one of the teams who made an attempt to sign Scamacca.

This summer was not the first time in which the Nerazzurri had tried to bring in the 24-year-old.

But the stars seemed to be lining up.

The fact that Inter were not signing Romelu Lukaku after the falling-out between the club and the Belgian striker meant that the Nerazzurri were in search of a player in that position.

And Inter did make West Ham an offer.

But so did Atalanta. The Nerazzurri’s Bergamo rivals were looking to replace Rasmus Hojlund, who left for Manchester United in a massive money move.

And in the end, Scamacca chose Atalanta.

Naturally, both clubs would have their advantages and disadvantages for the 24-year-old.

But a key one, Tuttosport posit, is playing time at Atalanta.

Whilst Scamacca would undoubtedly have had his opportunities at Inter, it is doubtful that he would’ve been first-choice.

The blazing form of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram early on this season suggests that he would’ve found it hard to break in.

Meanwhile, at Atalanta Scamacca does certainly appear to be first-choice under Gian Piero Gasperini.

And the former West Ham striker is finding his form at the Gewiss Arena.

Scamacca’s brace against Empoli on Monday is further evidence of that.

And when Atalanta host Inter next weekend, Scamacca will have the chance to further vindicate his choice.
