Inter Milan pair Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram are currently the most prolific strike partnership in Europe’s top five leagues.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Martinez and Thuram are not, the Gazzetta notes, the highest-scoring pair of players from one team in Europe.

Harry Kane and Leroy Sane at Bayern Munich surpass the Inter men in this regard.

As do Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez at Manchester City.

But in those cases, it is more of a matter of a centre-forward and then a different player. Sane is a winger, whilst Alvarez has played as more of an attacking midfielder this season.

With Martinez and Thuram, there are two out-and-out strikers playing alongside one another.

This is increasingly a rare phenomenon at the top level in Europe.

The feeling is that for the top teams, having two centre-forwards mean that they can get in one another’s way.

Therefore, it is usually more the case of having one striker starting and one on the bench. But Inter are proving that this doesn’t have to be the case.

Lautaro Martinez & Marcus Thuram Both Scoring Freely

Whilst Martinez has been the Inter striker to truly explode in front of goal early on this season – the Argentine has twelve goals so far – Thuram is not lagging that far behind.

The Frenchman has five of his own. And moreover, when he has weighed in, it has tended to be with decisive goals.

Four of Thuram’s goals have been the opening goals in matches to break the deadlock.

And in two occasions, he has scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory.

As the Gazzetta note, the thing that is impressive about Martinez and Thuram’s pairing is that the pair operate so seamlessly together.

The two strikers take turns letting each other take up the most dangerous positions.

And it has allowed both to benefit in terms of their goalscoring.
