Legendary former Inter Milan striker Roberto Boningsegna feels that Lautaro Martinez is worthy of the Ballon D’Or.

The Nerazzurri legend praised the current club captain in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At this year’s Ballon D’Or ceremony, Inter captain Martinez was on the shortlist.

The Argentine finished twentieth out of the thirty-player list.

This was some way from the top, of course. But it was a reflection of the fact that Martinez has had a remarkable year that he was even on the list.

At club level, Martinez helped Inter reach the Champions League final last season.

He finished the campaign as the Nerazzurri’s top scorer. This was the second season in which that has been the case.

And with twelve goals already this time around, Martinez looks ready to make it three in a row.

The 26-year-old also inherited the captain’s armband at Inter during the summer.

This is a reflection of not just Martinez’s quality on the pitch, but also his leadership on and off of it in this Nerazzurri team.

Meanwhile, Martinez also won the World Cup with Argentina last winter.

Inter Legend Boninsegna Feels Lautaro Martinez Worthy Of The Ballon D’Or

Boninsegna said of Martinez that he is “Formidable.”

He called the Argentine “One of the best strikers in Europe.”

“He’s worthy of winning the Ballon d’Or.”

As for whether he thinks that Inter can win the Serie A title, Boninsegna replied “Of course.”

“I saw them against Roma, they looked like a great team,” the former striker continued.

Boninsegna also gave the view that “Thuram is a player who gives the team a lot of value. He scored a very good goal.”

“Juve will have to watch out,” he added.

“It will be a duel between the two of them,” Boninsegna predicted as far as the Serie A title race.
