Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is happy to have beaten Atalanta despite La Dea’s stellar home defensive record.

The coach spoke to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 2-1 Serie A victory, via FCInterNews.

Taking three points from the Gewiss Arena always looked like it was going to be a tough ask.

Atalanta’s home form had been excellent going into this evening’s match. La Dea had only dropped two points in Serie A prior to this evening.

And the bedrock of that success has been the defensive solidity.

Going into this evening’s match, La Dea had not allowed a single goal in Bergamo.

Therefore, Inter always knew that they were going to have to produce some quality in order to break through.

But that is exactly what Simone Inzaghi’s team did.

The Nerazzurri opened the scoring from the penalty spot, through Hakan Calhanoglu. This came after the Turk had set up Matteo Darmian to win a penalty brilliantly.

Then, Lautaro Martinez scored the second with an excellent strike.

Gianluca Scamacca got one back for La Dea to set up a nervy last half-hour. But after that Inter held firm, taking three points back to Milan.

Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi Happy With Performance Vs Atalanta Defense

After the match, Inzaghi said that “We knew it would be a tough match.”

“The guys were did very well to stick together when they had to suffer,” he added.

“We scored two goals and created a lot against a team that hadn’t conceded a goal at home so far this season.”

As far as his coach-of-the-month award, Inzaghi remarked that “I have to share it with the guys, with my club, and with our wonderful fans.”

“They help us a lot, including this evening.”

Inzaghi also noted that “Atalanta changed their formation several times. But we always stayed focused, and we deserved this win at a difficult away ground.”
