Former Manchester United and Torino wingback Matteo Darmian is very happy to be playing for Inter Milan.

The 33-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s Serie A win over Atalanta, via FCInterNews. He expressed his happiness at having the trust of teammates and staff at Inter.

Inter got the result they were looking for at the Gewiss Arena this evening.

It was certainly not an easy match for the Nerazzurri.

For the second league match in a row, Inter travelled to a difficult stadium to face a team who pressed them aggressively and in an organized, man-to-man way.

Moreover, Inter lost a key man to injury during the first half, in the form of Benjamin Pavard.

But Pavard’s replacement Darmian managed to win the penalty from which the Nerazzurri took the lead, not long after coming on.

And then Inter captain Lautaro Martinez scored the second with a brilliantly taken strike.

Inter conceded around the hour mark. Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca found the back of the net.

But in the end, Inter protected their advantage, and take three points back to Milan.

Matteo Darmian Very Happy To Be Playing For Inter

“Playing for Inter is always a pleasure,” Darmian said after the match.

“There are a lot of us and we play in numerous competitions,” he noted, “There’s room for everyone.”

The Italian international continued that “I always try to improve,”

“I’m pleased to have the trust of my teammates and the coach, because that helps.”

Darmian also explained the action which led to Inter’s penalty in the first half.

“Every now and then in training we try different solutions to get the ball into the final third and into the penalty area,” he said.

“Calhanoglu has great quality,” the 33-year-old continued.

“He got the ball into the area, and I got to it before Musso.”

As far as which team Inter consider to be their biggest rivals for the Serie A title, Darmian was circumspect.

“I don’t know,” he said. “They’re all strong teams.”

“We just have to focus on ourselves,” he continued. “And try to keep doing what we’ve been doing so far.”

“We started well, we’re on the right path,” Darmian continued.

“We dropped some points against Sassuolo and Bologna, where we should have managed the game better.”

“But we’ve started well.”

“We have to look at ourselves,” Darmian added, “The pitch will give the final verdict.”
