Inter Milan defender Benjamin Pavard could be out until Christmas with the knee injury he picked up against Atalanta.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Whilst Inter got the result they came for from the Gewiss Arena yesterday evening, there was one major black mark on the Serie A clash – the injury to Pavard.

Naturally, the biggest question surrounding the Frenchman’s condition is when he will be able to return.

The biggest fears appear to have been allayed. Pavard has not suffered a rupture or tear in a ligament in his left knee.

Therefore, it is not as though the 27-year-old former Bayern Munich man will likely be out for months upon months.

In contrast, for example, Torino defender Perr Schuurs will be out for virtually the rest of the season with a knee injury of his own.

And Inter can breathe a certain sigh of relief that this won’t likely be the case with Pavard.

But the fact that Pavard’s injury isn’t putting his season at risk doesn’t mean that he won’t still be out for a while.

The recovery process should still be a matter of weeks for the Frenchman. Possibly even a couple months.

Inter have a couple more matches before the November international break. Then they return to action with key matches in both Serie A and the Champions League.

And what looks clear is that Pavard will miss a number of these matches.

Therefore, the 27-year-old should miss Serie A clashes with Juventus and Napoli.

It is also quite unlikely that Pavard will take part in the remainder of Inter’s Champions League group stage.

But as far as when Pavard will be able to return, there is no exact timeline yet.

But according to the Gazzetta, the feeling is that the Frenchman will be out until right around the end of the year.
