Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has earned plaudits for making a couple key interventions for Inter Milan against Atalanta yesterday evening.

As L’Interista highlights, the player ratings for yesterday’s Serie A clash at the Gewiss Arena have all been positive for the Swiss international’s performance.

Sommer did not necessarily make any truly outstanding saves yesterday.

But the 34-year-old did show the consistency that Inter signed him for when he had to.

There was little that Sommer could have done to stop Gianluca Scamacca’s second-half goal for La Dea. The former Sassuolo and West Ham United striker had too much of the net to aim at.

But Sommer did make another save on Scamacca.

The Swiss international had had a parry fall to the feet of the Italian international.

And naturally, a striker in form like Scamacca was always going to reach. The 24-year-old drilled his shot low and hart.

But Sommer was equal to it.

The former Bayern Munich keeper managed to get down and keep the ball away from danger.

This was a key moment late in the match that made sure that Inter left Bergamo with all three points.

And Sommer also made a sharp save on La Dea forward Ademola Lookman.

Yann Sommer Praised For Making Key Saves For Inter Vs Atalanta

Since joining from Bayern in the summer transfer window, Sommer has played his part in Inter’s strong start to the season.

The 34-year-old was never going to have quite the influence that his predecessor Andre Onana had in possession.

Nor has Sommer made the kinds of truly special saves that the Cameroonian had done in the Champions League last season.

But that’s not necessarily what Inter signed the Swiss for.

Rather, the Nerazzurri needed to bring in a steady and reliable presence between the posts.

And that’s what Sommer has proven to be.

After a couple seasons of uncertainty as former captain Samir Handanovic had declined, Inter have put their faith in a keeper with bags of experience and a big reputation.

And against Atalanta, the 34-year-old showed that he can play his part in getting big results against tough opposition yet again.
