Italian media are comparing Thomsa Zilliacus’s promises of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland at Inter Milan to memories of Luka Modric and Lionel Messi links.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, caution against some of the Finnish billionaire’s more outlandish and optimistic promises.

Finnish businessman Thomas Zilliacus has not been shy about his intention of buying Inter.

The billionaire has stated that he plans to make present Nerazzurri owners Suning a big offer imminently.

And Zilliacus has made big claims about what his reign could herald at Inter. That is, if he is to actually take over at the club.

The most eye-catching of these concerns the possibility of massive investment in the transfer market.

Zilliacus has suggested that it wouldn’t be unthinkable for Inter to sign global superstars like Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland if his project is to come to fruition.

But for La Repubblica, there is some real cause for skepticism.

Mbappe & Haaland Talk – Repeat Of Modric & Messie Dreams?

This is not the first time that some of the biggest names in European football have come up in conjunction with Inter.

There has been frequent, if relatively fanciful talk, of certain transfer possibilities.

Real Madrid legend Luka Modric and World Cup winner Lionel Messi have both come up here and there over the past few years.

The idea always seems to be that there is a possibility for Inter to re-enter the era in which they signed the biggest names in Europe.

Players like Ronaldo, Roberto Baggio, or Lothar Matthaus, to take a few examples.

Sure, Inter have big names on their books already. Players like Lautaro Martinez, Nicolo Barella, and Alessandro Bastoni are all considered top-class in their respective positions.

And Inter have seen players like Romelu Lukaku and Arturo Vidal come through their doors in recent years.

But a player like Modric or Messi would be a different proposition.

So would Mbappe or Haaland, to put it mildly. Particularly considering that the pair are much younger than Modric or Messi.

But La Repubblica question what the point of all this talk is.

The links to Modric and Messi were never anything more than hot air. Few seriously believed that Inter would sign such legends.

And, regardless of Zilliacus’s claims, La Repubblica argue that his “dream” signings are more of the same.
