Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer feels that the Nerazzurri defended well and took their chances to beat Red Bull Salzburg this evening.

The 34-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the Champions League group stage win, via FCInterNews.

Inter got what they were after in this evening’s match away in Austria.

It was hardly a straightforward match by any means, however.

The Nerazzurri had to leave it late, with Lautaro Martinez finding the back of the net from the penalty spot after coming off the bench.

But that was enough for Inter to see out the result. The team also kept a clean sheet at the back.

Doing that is becoming something of a habit for Sommer since the Swiss international joined Inter from Bayern Munich over the summer.

And it was enough for Inter to book their place in the round of sixteen.

This is the third consecutive season in which the Nerazzurri are in the Champions League knockouts.

It may not have been the prettiest or most emphatic of victories. But it was enough to get the job done in a difficult away match.

Inter Keeper Yann Sommer: Defended Well, Took Our Chances To Beat Red Bull Salzburg

“It was a difficult match,” Sommer admitted after the final whistle.

“We had little space to play in.”

“The key was to defend well, win our duels,” the Swiss international continued.

“There were few opportunities, but we made the most of them,” he added.

As for whether he expected his time at Inter to start as well as it has, Sommer said that “I didn’t think about it much before arriving.”

“We worked to take care of every detail.”

“Now things are going very well,” he noted. “But let’s focus on the next matches.”

“I’m happy to be part of this great club,” Sommer said.

“I feel good here,” he noted. “The important thing is to stay united as a team, communicating with each other.”
