Former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez is finally starting to look in top physical condition for Inter Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the Chilean’s growing form.

When Inter brought Sanchez back on a free transfer during the summer, there were no doubts about his technical quality or experience.

The 34-year-old has shown in Serie A, La Liga, the Premier League, and last season in Ligue 1 with Marseille that he is up there with just about any player in Europe for talent.

But where there were more than a few doubts were in terms of fitness.

Sanchez is now in his mid-thirties. He hardly let that stop him last season at Marseille.

But the real problem was the way that the summer went for Sanchez.

After the ex-Barcelona forward’s contract with Marseille expired, he left in search of a new club.

Therefore, Sanchez did not have a preseason training period with a club.

As such, when the Chilean arrived at Inter, he was not in any condition to play.

Alexis Sanchez Finding Physical Condition For Inter

At the start of this season, Sanchez was not even ready to make matchday squads for the Nerazzurri.

Eventually, the veteran forward started to get opportunities. But there were very clear signs of rust when he played.

This will have been a worrying sign for Inter.

The Nerazzurri signed Sanchez to be an important part of the attacking rotations, even if only for a season or two.

And if the Chilean’s lack of a preseason meant that he’d never really take flight this season, it could blunt the team’s impact.

But in recent weeks, Sanchez has finally shown clear signs of his old self.

The 34-year-old got his first goal in his second spell at Inter against Red Bull Salzburg two weeks ago.

And then on Wednesday, he made another start against the same opposition.

Sanchez did not manage to score against the Austrian champions again.

But there was no lack of energy in Sanchez’s performance. The Chilean tirelessly showed for the ball, pressed Salzburg’s backline, and always looked like he wanted to run at defenders.

Clearly, if this is the Sanchez that Inter are getting for the rest of the season, his fitness and condition will not be too much of a worry.
