Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi is only behind the legendary Helenio Herrera in terms of Champions League win percentage.

Following Wednesday’s win over RB Salzburg, the Nerazzurri booked their spot in the competition’s Round of 16 for the third time under the guidance of the 47-year-old.

Inzaghi continues to prove his prowess in Europe’s most prestigious club competition. He had also reached the knockout stages with Lazio before making the switch to Inter in the summer of 2021.

Since then, he won 14 out of 25 Champions League fixtures. His current win percentage is 56%.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, this puts Inzaghi second behind the iconic Helenio Herrera.

The late Argentine led the club towards its first two European Cup trophies in 1963/64 and 1965/65. He won 20 of the 32 matches played in the competition, so his win percentage stands at 62.5%.

Roberto Mancini, who led the club between 2004 and 2008, completes the podium. The former Italy and Man City boss won 19 of 37 UCL fixtures (52.7%) during his time with the Nerazzurri.

Curiously, Jose Mourinho’s win percentage in the Champions League with Inter is below 50% despite clinching the coveted trophy in 2009/10. The Special One collected 10 victories from 21 matches.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Is Second Behind Helenio Herrera In UCL Win Percentage

The report also highlights how Inzaghi has been superior in Europe compared to his two most recent predecessors. Of course, we’re talking about Luciano Spalletti and Antonio Conte.

While the current Italy manager was the one who led Inter back to the competition, his solitary UCL campaign was disappointing. He only won two matches from six group-stage fixtures.

Spalletti failed to qualify for the Round of 16, and the same goes for Conte who, despite his domestic exploits, was eliminated from the group stage on two attempts.
