Wingback Denzel Dumfries will be fit to start for Inter against vs Frosinone, while Matteo Darmian will drop to the bench.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster reports that Stefan de Vrij will start on the left of the back three.

Dumfries was in the matchday squad for Inter’s Champions League group stage clash with Red Bull Salzburg this week.

However, the Dutchman did not play, either from the start or from the bench.

The reason was some muscle fatigue. Dumfries had not been at his best in the training sessions leading up to the match.

This is perhaps not surprising considering that the 27-year-old has had a heavy workload ever since the return from the October international break.

Moreover, Dumfries plays in the very physically demanding wingback position.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided not to risk the former PSV wingback.

He didn’t start Dumfries, nor did he use him as an impact substitute during the second half.

Denzel Dumfries Fit For Inter Vs Frosinone Serie A Clash – Matteo Darmian To Drop To The Bench

The absence of Dumfries posed a bit of a problem for Inzaghi.

This was because of the other injuries in the team.

Wingback Juan Cuadrado has been out for several matches. The Colombian has not been part of a matchday squad since the return from the October break.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Pavard will be out for the foreseeable future.

The French former Bayern Munich defender picked up a knee injury against Atalanta last weekend.

This meant that Matteo Darmian was the only backup at right-wingback. And so Darmian started on the flank, and then Yann Bisseck started on the right of the defense.

After the German came off at halftime, Stefan de Vrij played on the right of the back three.

That is far from the former Lazio and Feyenoord defender’s usual position.

But according to Sky, de Vrij will continue to play on the right of the back three against Frosinone tomorrow.

The Dutchman will form the back three along with Alessandro Bastoni and Francesco Acerbi from the start. Dumfries will start, whilst Bisseck and Darmian will both begin on the bench,
