Versatile Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian will get a rest against Frosinone this evening, and Stefan de Vrij will start on the right.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Darmian played all ninety minutes of Inter’s Champions League group stage win away to Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday evening.

The 33-year-old former Manchester United and Torino man did so at right-wingback.

There was little option but to start Darmian on the flank. Juan Cuadrado was out with tendon problems, whilst Denzel Dumfries was in need of a rest.

And with Benjamin Pavard also out with an injury, this meant that Yann Bisseck started on the right of defense.

Darmian can cover there, and is the first-choice backup to Pavard this season.

But with the 33-year-old Italian international needed elsewhere, young German defender Bisseck got his first ever start for Inter.

Darmian To Get A Rest Vs Frosinone – De Vrij On The Right

Bisseck came off at halftime, however. This decision was the result of the 22-year-old picking up a booking in the first half.

It was Stefan de Vrij who replaced Bisseck on the right of Inter’s defense.

That is not the former Lazio defender’s natural position.

However, de Vrij did well in the role, helping Inter to a vital clean sheet in order to secure their place in the knockout rounds.

And according to the Gazzetta, the Dutchman will once again play in that position this evening against Frosinone, but this time from the start.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will prefer de Vrij to Darmian, in order to give the latter a rest.

And Dumfries will return to the starting eleven, starting on the right flank.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta report that Inzaghi considered resting either Hakan Calhanoglu or Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

However, the newspaper anticipate, both midfielders will start. The Nerazzurri coach believes that they are both ready.
