Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani is a doubt for Friday’s EURO 2024 qualifier between Albania and Moldova due to injury.
Albanian news outlet Panorama Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the 21-year-old is currently training apart from the rest of the Albania squad as he recovers from a thigh strain.
Asllani was a late withdrawal from the Inter squad for yesterday’s Serie A match against Frosinone.
There had been little indication until right before the match that the ex-Empoli midfielder would miss out.
Prior to yesterday, Asllani had been part of every Inter matchday squad so far this season.
However, very shortly before the match, Inter announced that the Albanian would not be part of the squad available to Simone Inzaghi.
The reason for this was a minor thigh strain.
There was no indication that it was a serious problem.
But evidently Asllani’s muscle strain was serious enough that he was not risked against Frosinone yesterday.
Inter Midfielder Kristjan Asllani Could Miss Albania Vs Moldova EURO 2024 Qualifier
The international break has begun.
That means that the majority of Inter’s squad have received call-ups to go and train with their national sides.
Asllani is a player who has become a regular fixture for Albania.
Whilst he is only 21 and doesn’t start all that frequently for Inter, Asllani has started in most of his country’s recent matches.
This has included playing an important role in the Eagles getting themselves into a strong position to qualify for the upcoming Euros.
Albania are currently top of their qualifying group, ahead of Czechia.
That means that the next two qualifying matches will be massive for Albania.
On Friday the 17th, Albania face Moldova in their first qualifier. Then next week, there is the last qualifying clash, against bottom-of-the-group Faroe Islands.
It’s not yet certain that Asllani will miss Friday’s match against Moldova. But he certainly could.
Therefore, Albania coach Sylvinho has called up Lecce midfielder Medon Berisha in order to reinforce his squad in case Asllani cannot play a part in Friday’s match.
