Only a couple of big names from the Inter Milan squad have remained in training during the international break.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note that Henrikh Mkhitaryan abd Benjamin Pavard are still at the Nerazzurri training complex.
Naturally, a team like Inter always want to have plenty of full internationals in their squad.
Players receiving call-ups for their national teams is, of course, an indication of their quality.
Therefore, the number of players in Inter’s squad who are off on international duty is an indication of the quality of the players that Inzaghi has at his disposal.
But that is of course a double-edged sword.
It means that Inzaghi does not have a lot of key players to work with during the break.
The coach will have to wait until late next week to be able to prepare his team for the matches after the break.
In fact, the Corriere note, Inzaghi has just one of his regular starters at his disposal in training.
Mkhitaryan & Pavard Only Big Names At Inter Not On International Duty
34-year-old former Roma and Arsenal midfielder Mkhitaryan is Armenia’s top goalscorer in the country’s history.
He has captained his national team on many occasions. And with 95 caps, only one player has made more appearances for Armenia – former defender Sargis Hovsepyan.
But Mkhitaryan called time on his international career in 2022.
The midfielder decided to focus on his club career.
This meant that Armenia lost their talisman. But it has come as a boost for Mkhitaryan’s club coaches.
That means Inzaghi. The Nerazzurri coach will surely be grateful that Mkhitaryan is able to rest up and work on his fitness in training.
And Inzaghi has a chance to work with Mkhitaryan in a low-key manner to reinforce the 34-year-old’s tactical importance to his team.
Meanwhile, defender Pavard is out with a knee injury.
So the former Bayern Munich man has stayed behind.
Pavard is not yet ready to get out of his knee brace and begin training again. But he is undergoing therapy to improve his condition.
And given that Pavard only arrived at Inter during the summer break, he could still have the chance to work with coach Inzaghi tactically.
Apart from Mkhitaryan and Pavard, though, the Gazzetta note that it’s a threadbare squad for the Nerazzurri coach.
He will be able to work with players like Davy Klaassen and Stefano Sensi. But as far as the key starters, they will be away.
