Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will miss out on an upcoming friendly between Germany and Turkey due to flu-like symptoms.

This is confirmed by the Turkish FA, via FCInterNews, who announce that the 29-year-old will not travel with the rest of his national team’s squad after missing two training sessions with illness.

Inter midfielder Calhanoglu is currently with the Turkish national team for the break.

The 29-year-old has already helped the team qualify for the upcoming Euros. They topped their EURO 2024 qualifying group already.

And during the break, Turkey will travel to Germany. There, they will face the hosts of the upcoming tournament, Germany.

Germany have not been playing EURO 2024 qualifying matches, as they have an automatic spot in the tournament as the hosts.

However, Die Mannschaft have nevertheless played friendly matches during the last few international breaks in order to retain their match-sharpness.

And on Saturday, the Germans will take on Turkey.

But Turkey will be without their captain for that match.

Calhanoglu is Turkey’s captain.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen man inherited the armband from Burak Yilmaz following the striker’s retirement from international football.

And Calhanoglu has certainly played a vital role for his national side.

Just as the Turk has become more and more central to his club team Inter transitioning to a deep-lying playmaker role, he has become his country’s main man as well.

But Calhanoglu has missed the last couple training sessions at the start of the break.

The reason for this is that the midfielder has been suffering from some flu-like symptoms.

Therefore, Calhanoglu is hardly in the right condition to play on Saturday.

As such, the Turkish FA have announced that the Nerazzurri midfielder will not travel with the rest of the squad.
