Inter Milan are not far off from extending the contract of superstar midfielder Nicolo Barella.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipates that an agreement could be made official early next year.
At the moment, Barella’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2026.
Therefore, it is not as though there is an imminent rush to find an agreement on a new deal. There is, after all, more than two years left to go on the midfielder’s current one.
But Inter have been looking to nail down the futures of a number of key players at the core of their squad in recent months.
These have included contract talks with the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco.
The Nerazzurri are aiming to extend both of those two players’ contracts until the end of June 2028.
These would follow new deals that Alessandro Bastoni and Hakan Calhanoglu signed in the summer.
And Barella’s situation is also very much on the agenda for Inter, the Gazzetta report.
Inter One Step Away From Extending Contract Of Nicolo Barella
As with Martinez and Dimarco, Inter want to extend Barella’s contract until the end of June 2028.
And like with the aforementioned pair, the Nerazzurri would offer the former Cagliari midfielder a significant wage increase to increase his growth and ever-increasing standing in the squad.
The Gazzetta report that Inter would be ready to increase Barella’s wages to €5 million net per season plus add-ons.
The add-ons in the deal would take Barella’s annual earnings to right around €6 million net.
According to the Gazzetta, the talks with Barella and his representatives are far along.
There is not necessarily a new meeting scheduled for the immediate future.
But the Gazzetta identify the beginning of 2024 as the likely point. Inter will look to seal an agreement then, well before the current season ends.
Then Barella will be ready to put pen to paper and commit his future on a new five-year deal.
