Inter Milan remain ahead of the competition in the race to sign soon-to-be free agent Tiago Djalo.

The 23-year-old rose through the ranks of Sporting Lisbon and then had a brief spell at AC Milan where he featured for the Primavera squad.

The Rossoneri then sold him to Lille in 2019. The defender has been sharpening his tools at the French club ever since, establishing himself as one of the most promising young centre-backs in Ligue 1.

According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has been tracking the player’s development for the last 18 months or so.

The Nerazzurri official feels was even hoping to sign the player earlier but a Cruciate ligament injury derailed his progress. Djalo has remained on the sidelines since last season.

However, he should make his return to action at some point during the current campaign.

In the meantime, Ausilio is convinced that Inter have the advantage in the race for the defender’s signature.

While the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on the player, Inter are reportedly in pole position.

Djalo’s contract with Lille will expire at the end of the season. Therefore, the Italian giants will be able to sign him on a free transfer.

The versatile defender has also represented Portugal in various group ages. He made eight appearances of the U21.

Moreover, Djalo earned a call-up for the Portuguese senior national team but has yet to make his debut.
