Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni will be able to return from injury against Udinese, whilst Benjamin Pavard will be back within a few weeks.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper also report that Denzel Dumfries will be back against Napoli tomorrow.

The past few weeks have seen a borderline injury crisis emerge at Inter.

First, French international Pavard has been out with a knee injury that he sustained in a Serie A match against Atalanta early last month.

Then Bastoni picked up a calf strain whilst on international duty with Italy.

The pair’s absence meant that Inter have been relying on the experienced trio of Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, and Matteo Darmian at the back.

That was the back three that started against Juventus last weekend. And it will also be the starting backline against Napoli tomorrow.

Moreover, those three were the only ones who did not get rotated out against Benfica in Wednesday evening’s Champions League match.

With Bastoni and Pavard out, there has been little option but to play the trio.

Returns For Inter Duo Bastoni & Pavard On The Horizon

According to the Gazzetta, however, returns for both of Bastoni and Pavard are now on the horizon.

For the former, it is now not far away at all.

Bastoni is now back in training, having recovered from his calf problem.

However, the Gazzetta anticipate, Bastoni will not start against Napoli tomorrow.

There are still worries about the possibility of the 24-year-old’s injury relapsing if he were to return to early. Therefore there will be caution tomorrow.

But the Italian international should certainly be ready for next weekend’s clash with Udinese.

And then Pavard will follow Bastoni not too long after.

The 27-year-old is currently working on getting his fitness back up. He was able to remove his protective knee brace last week.

The Gazzetta predict that it will be around two weeks before Pavard can return to full training.

Then, it will not be long before the Frenchman can be back in matchday squads.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta report, wingback Dumfries is also back fit.

The Dutchman was not part of the squad that faced Benfica during the week.

Dumfries being out placed further strain on Inter’s defense. This is because it meant that Matteo Darmian deputized on the right flank.

However, Dumfries will be able to start against Napoli tomorrow.
