Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that it’s still to early to say whether the team are better than they were last season.

The coach spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, following the Nerazurri’s 3-0 Serie A win over Napoli.

Inter got a big statement win at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona yesterday evening.

It was never going to be easy for the Nerazzurri.

Even if Napoli have not gotten off to the best of starts this season, they are still Italian champions.

And the first half certainly saw the Partenopei trying to prove why.

Playing their third match under Walter Mazzarri, Napoli pushed up the pitch intensely.

There were certainly moments where Inter had to struggle. And the fact that defender Stefan de Vrij had to go off with an injury during the first half certainly didn’t help matters.

But in the end, Inter held out defensively. And combined with showing their quality at the other end of the pitch, this allowed the Nerazzurri to reclaim their spot at the top of the Serie A table.

Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi Urges Caution After Napoli Win

For his part, Inzaghi doesn’t want to get expectations up too much.

“ime will tell if we’re better than we were last season,” Inzaghi said.

“We’ve already reached the round of sixteen in the Champions League,” he noted. “And qualified for the Club World Cup, which is important for the club.”

“And then we’ll see what else we do.”

And Inzaghi also spoke about the performance of wingback Carlos Augusto.

The Brazilian played in a different position than his usual one. Augusto came on to play in defense following an injury to Stefan de Vrij.

“He was very good,” the coach said, “He had a great match.”

“It wasn’t easy for him to come in cold,” Inzaghi noted. “Without warming up, here at Maradona against opponents who can always cause anyone problems.”

“I’m very satisfied with him,” Inzaghi said of Augusto’s display.

“And with the team. For now we’re enjoying this win, but from Tuesday on our focus will be on Udinese.”
