Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has won significant praise for his excellent reaction saves against Napoli in Serie A yesterday.

L’Interista highlight that the Swiss international received stellar scores in the player ratings for the match across Italian media.

Sommer had work to do right from the off yesterday evening in Naples.

With just a couple minutes gone, Partenopei midfielder Eljif Elmas let fly from distance.

It was no mere speculative effort from the North Macedonian international.

Elmas’s shot had great power and pace, as well as a laser-like accuracy.

Sommer had to react in an instant, and flung his body at the shot in order to tip it just barely wide.

It was a highlight reel save, and massively important for Inter in the context of the match.

A very early Napoli goal would have put a lot of wind in the Partenopei sails as they piled on the pressure in the first half.

But Sommer’s excellent stop meant that Inter stayed level. That became hugely significant after Hakan Calhanoglu scored the opener in the final minutes of the first half.

Yann Sommer Wins Big Praise For Saves In Napoli Inter Clash

The Swiss’s work was far from over after that save on Elmas, however.

Far from it.

Sommer had to save shots from the likes of talismanic Napoli duo Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen.

There was also another brilliant long-range effort, this time from former Inter winger Matteo Politano.

But no matter what Napoli threw at Sommer, the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper was equal to it.

This was yet another clean sheet from Sommer. These have become a habit for the 34-year-old since his arrival at Inter.

And it was a vital platform for the Nerazzurri to grow into the match in confidence.

Along with some clinical finishing at the other end of the pitch, Sommer’s heroics were good for three vital points in the Serie A title race for Inter.
