Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta suggests his club’s impressive display against Napoli last weekend was even more significant than the win.

Following Juve’s dramatic win over Monza last Friday, the Nerazzurri were hellbent on reclaiming the lead in the Serie A standings.

Simone Inzaghi’s men overpowered the defending champions at the Maradona Stadium with three unanswered goals.

Hakan Calhanoglu put the visitors in the lead with a sublime low drive by the end of the first half.

After the interval, Nicolo Barella consolidated Inter’s advantage with a lovely goal, his first of the season.

Afterward, Marcus Thuram sealed the win beyond any doubt with a simple tap-in.

The grand victory cemented the club’s status as Scudetto favorites, while Marotta argues that the performance was even more important than the result.

“The feeling is that the performance that the lads delivered was even more important than the result.” said the Nerazzurri CEO in his interview with Rai Sport (via FcInterNews) during the Gran Gala del Calcio ceremony.

The former Sampdoria and Juventus director also gives credit to Inter coach Simone Inzaghi for his admirable work at the club.

“The credit must go to Inzaghi. These displays prove that this team is continuously growing in terms of awareness and maturity.”

Inter are now leading the Serie A charts with 35 points from 14 rounds. Juventus are right behind them with only a couple of points adrift.

Nevertheless, the Bianconeri will host Napoli on Friday night.

The Nerazzurri will be hoping that their chasers drop points early in the weekend. Inzaghi’s men will then take on Udinese on Saturday night at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.
