Matteo Darmian is hoping that he can stay at Inter Milan as long as possible.

The 34-year-old former Manchester United and Torino veteran spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, ahead of tomorrow evening’s Champions League match against Real Sociedad.

Darmian is now in his fourth season as an Inter player.

By the time that the Italian international joined the Nerazzurri, his thirtieth birthday had already passed.

But there has never been any sign that Darmian is slowing down.

On the contrary, the veteran defender has proved to be an absolutely crucial player for the Nerazzurri.

Darmian’s versatility is one of the reasons why. He has already played at right-wingback, right-centre-back, and left-wingback this season.

And the 34-year-old’s consistency is another.

No matter the position that he is playing in, Darmian’s performances have been outstanding.

Inter reportedly want to extend Darmian’s contract without much haste. As things stand, the Italian’s deal runs out at the end of next June.

And for his part, Darmian has no doubt about his desire to stay for a good long while.

Matteo Darmian Wants To Stay At Inter As Long As Possible

Darmian spoke glowingly about how things are going for him at Inter.

“Having the trust from everyone is great,” he said. “From the fans, from the staff, the club, my teammates.”

“My hopes is that I can stay at Inter for as long as possible,” he added.

As far as tomorrow evening’s match, Darmian insisted that it’s important to the team to beat Real Sociedad to get top spot in their group.

“It matters a lot to us,” he said.

“We know how important it is to finish top of the group.”

“Tomorrow will be a difficult match, against a team who are strong and have shown their quality all throughout the group stage,” Darmian continued.

“Not just in the first match against us, where we suffered in the first part of the match.”

“Tomorrow we need to play a careful match to bring home the win.”
